Old Melbourne Gaol as a starting point 2024
Publication Design
Using the historical forced labour and flagellation issues at Old Melbourne Gaol as a starting point, the publication explores the experiences of various groups around the world who faced oppression under disciplinary and legal systems. This includes examining forced labour imposed on transported convicts, Asian coolies, Pacific Islanders, and victims of the Transatlantic slave trade among all others. The goal is to create a comprehensive world map illustrating the global history of forced labour and legal systemic oppression from 16th to 20th century, tracing its evolution alongside the development of institutions like the Old Melbourne Gaol.
